Reference Stations

You might not have your own TNC, or you might want to connect your local packet network with one in another city. Here, we list all the public reference stations, which let you get up and running quickly. The reference stations are stations anyone with a license can connect to using the tcp interface and try out pax25.

Reference stations allow you to explore a packet network in a city of your choice. Check out the table below to select a city you'd like to explore:

If you are having trouble connecting to a reference station, please email fox@vulpinity.com for assistance, or join our Discord and ask for help!

Start your own reference station

Want to help Pax25 reach more people? You can build your own reference station, and we'll list it here! Check out the requirements below.

Reference station requirements

Reference stations have the following requirements:

  1. They must be operated by someone with a valid ham radio licence with a license to transmit on standard Amateur VHF/UHF data frequencies. In the USA, this means at least a Technician's license.
  2. They must run a stable version of pax25. No forks may be used on reference stations.
  3. They may, however, have any applications and services desired.
  4. They must be in listening distance of other over the air packet stations and be configured to contact them.
  5. They should have a TCP connection link to at least one other reference node.

Submitting a reference station

To request your station be added as a reference station, please email fox@vulpinity.com, reach out to us on Discord, or leave a message on the Houston reference station mailbox, FOXBOX. Include the information listed in the reference station table (callsign, host, etc).
